‘Cervical Cancer-Free Maharashtra’ drive launched from Pune

‘Cervical Cancer-Free Maharashtra’ drive launched from Pune

Maharashtra has taken a historic step toward safeguarding women’s health with the launch of the ambitious ‘Cervical Cancer-Free Maharashtra’ campaign. Initiated from Pune district on Wednesday, the programme is designed to protect young girls and build a healthier future for women across the state, health officials confirmed.

Focus on Girls Aged 9–14
At the core of this initiative is a strong emphasis on awareness, prevention, and widespread HPV vaccination. The campaign specifically targets girls aged 9 to 14 years, the most effective age group for HPV immunisation. To streamline and execute the programme efficiently, the state government has appointed Jeevika Foundation (Jeevika Healthcare) as its official execution partner.

CSR Support Driving Impact
In Pune district, the campaign has already made significant progress with substantial support from corporate partners under CSR initiatives. Organisations such as ZS – Global Management and Consulting Firm, Icertis, CaratLane, Bridgenext India Pvt. Ltd., and JBM Auto have collectively enabled the vaccination of over 6,000 girls so far.
With continued backing from Bajaj Finserv and ZS, the programme aims to cover an additional 5,000 beneficiaries in the coming months.

One of India’s Largest Preventive Health Initiatives
The campaign is poised to become one of the largest public health drives in India focusing on women’s preventive care. Schools across Pune are playing a crucial role by running structured awareness sessions involving teachers, parents, and local community leaders. These sessions are followed by well-coordinated vaccination drives to ensure maximum reach.

A Vision Supported by Leadership
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed strong support for the initiative, stating,
“The Cervical Cancer-Free Maharashtra campaign is a big step towards providing preventive healthcare to every girl in the state. Protecting our daughters is our collective responsibility, and we urge the corporate sector to continue supporting this mission through CSR.”

A Healthier Tomorrow for Maharashtra
With focused planning, multi-stakeholder collaboration, and a determination to eliminate cervical cancer, Maharashtra’s new campaign marks a turning point in women’s healthcare. As thousands of young girls receive protection against HPV, the state moves closer to a future where cervical cancer can be prevented, controlled, and ultimately eliminated.
